On Thursday, September 24, the Board held a virtual policy forum on Representative Payees: Opportunities to Improve Service Delivery.
The forum showcased an independent, Board-commissioned study by researchers from the Virginia Tech Center on Gerontology and the American Bar Association Commission on Law and Aging. The report, Selection Processes for SSA Representative Payees of Adults, is published on our website.
Following the presentation of the report, the Board moderated three panels. Discussions covered capability determinations, the selection process, training, oversight, and the need for ongoing research and evaluation. The final panel considered the public service implications of a more individualized, supported decision-making model, and how to get there.
