January 2014 Board Meeting
01/15/2014
During its January meeting, the Board held two fact-finding sessions. The first one featured Economist and former Advisory Board Chairman Sylvester Schieber. Dr. Schieber provided a brief history of retirement and pension policy in the U.S. and shared some of his views and observations on retirement income security, including what workers need to save in order to prepare for an adequate retirement. The Board held a second fact-finding session in the afternoon, featuring Stephen Goss, Chief Actuary of the Social Security Administration (SSA) who was invited in light of the upcoming 2015 Technical Panel on Assumptions and Methods. Mr. Goss provided a historical perspective of past Technical Panels and offered the Board some insight on issues that he believes the next Panel should focus on, as well as suggestions on the types of panelists the Board may want to consider inviting.
