On May 2-4, the Board visited the Social Security Administration’s San Francisco Region, headquartered in Richmond, CA, for a series of meetings with executives, managers, and front-line employees of the agency. During this trip, the Board focused on representative payee issues.
The Board met with representatives from various SSA components including: Operations, Office of Disability Adjudication and Review, Office of the General Counsel, Office of Quality Review, and the Office of the Inspector General. During these meetings, the Board gathered valuable insight about local and national issues, and SSA staff provided insights and ideas for improving the administration of Social Security programs.
In addition to meetings with SSA staff, the Board met with representatives of Swords to Plowshares, an organizational payee for homeless veterans, about their methods to secure housing for their clients. The Board also held a public forum at the San Pablo Community Center co-sponsored by Lao Family Community Development, Inc., the West County Senior Coalition, and the League of Women Voters-West County. At the forum, Board members heard directly from members of the public and local stakeholders about ideas to improve the Social Security system.
